Disclosed is an economically advantageous method for producing an O/W emulsion composition whereby an O/W emulsion composition can be easily produced without using any special cooling device. This method for producing an O/W emulsion composition is characterized by comprising: preparing an emulsified part by emulsifying, at a temperature of 70°C or higher, an oily phase comprising a nonionic surfactant (A), a linear higher alcohol (B) that has 16 or more carbon atoms and can form, together with said nonionic surfactant, an ±-gel in water, and an oily component (C), with a portion of an aqueous phase comprising water (D): under stirring this emulsified part, mixing the same with the remainder of the main aqueous phase at 10 to 35°C and continuing the stirring until the temperature is reduced to the lower limit of the temperature range, wherein the oily phase can form an ±-gel in the aqueous phase, or below; and then stopping the stirring.
