Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation comprises (i) preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits formic acid, sodium formate and water; (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor; (iii) supplying the mother liquor during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device; (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid; (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid; and (vi) removing the water by withdrawing from the distilling device.
