Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation comprises (i) preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits formic acid, sodium formate and water； (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor； (iii) supplying the mother liquor during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device； (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid； (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid； and (vi) removing the water by withdrawing from the distilling device. Preparation of a solid sodium formate preparation with a content of at least 35 wt.% of formic acid, comprises: (i) at increased temperature, preparing an aqueous solution, which exhibits a molar ratio of formic acid and sodium formate of more than 1.5:1 and a molar ratio of formic acid and water of at least 1.1:1； (ii) subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization and separating a solid phase from mother liquor； (iii) supplying the mother liquor, optionally after removal of a partial quantity of the mother liquor, during the production of the aqueous solution, to a distilling device； (iv) mixing the mother liquor with a sodium-containing base to form a mixture containing sodium formate and formic acid； (v) mixing the mixture with formic acid under receipt of the aqueous solution； and (vi) removing the water that is not needed for the production of the aqueous solution, by withdrawing from the distilling device.
