The present invention provides novel slow-releasing ophthalmic compositions containing Povidone Iodine (PVP-I) and uses thereof in the treatment of acute infections of at least one eye tissue from bacterial, mycobacterial, viral, fungal, or amoebic causes and for preventing such infections in appropriate clinical settings. Each of the ophthalmic compositions contains povidone iodine, osmotic pressure regulator, suspending agent and EDTA-Na, wherein povidone iodine exists as microsphere particles formed by PVP-I and sodium alginate.La présente invention de nouvelles compositions ophtalmiques à libération lente contenant de la povidone iodée (PVP-I) et leurs utilisations dans le traitement d'infections aiguës d'au moins un tissu oculaire provenant d'une cause bactérienne, mycobactérienne, virale, fongique ou amibienne, et pour la prévention de telles infections dans des conditions cliniques appropriées. Chacune des compositions ophtalmiques contient de la povidone iodée, un régulateur de pression osmotique, un agent de suspension et EDTA-Na, la povidone iodée existant sous forme de particules microsphériques formées par PVP-I et de l'alginate de sodium.
