An engaging female member for a hook-and-loop fastener, and a method of production thereof, which comprises a fabric having a warp yarn and a weft yarn arranged at intervals thereby forming openings in the fabric, and a loop yarn that protrudes from at least one surface； a flat substrate； and an adhesive layer provided on the yarn of one side of the fabric that bonds the fabric to the substrate, wherein the ratio of (opening ratio of the adhesive layer) / (opening ratio of the fabric) is not less than 0.1 and not more than 1.0.
