The disclosure relates to an olfactory attractant composition for fruit flies and its use in methods of attracting fruit flies, controlling fruit flies and monitoring for the presence of fruit flies. In particular, the olfactory attractant composition comprises at least five different lower alkyl esters of the formula C1-4alkylC(O)OC1-4alkyl selected from the group consisting of methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, ethyl propionate, ethyl butanoate, methyl butanoate and isobutyl acetate, wherein ethyl propionate is present in an amount of from 1% to 25% optionally methanol, ethanol or a mixture thereof and optionally isopentyl acetate, ethyl hexanoate or a mixture thereof. Also disclosed is a device for dispensing the composition and an apparatus for trapping fruit flies comprising said composition and optionally an insecticide composition.
