PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gauze detection system capable of preventing a gauze from being left behind in surgery without subjecting the gauze to special processing.SOLUTION: A gauze detection system 100 includes an image input part 1 for inputting an image of a photographed surgical field, a determination part 2 for determining, with a region of a predetermined size in the input image as a determination object region, whether or not the region includes a feature of a gauze image by image processing, and a determination result output part 3 for notifying that a gauze is detected in the input image when there is a determination object region determined to include the feature of the gauze image by the determination part 2.
