PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel that is able to carry out smooth and stable operation of a clutch operating member.SOLUTION: The fishing reel (1) has a spool (10) supported between the side plates (4a, 4b) of its reel body (2). A rotating member (29) and a clutch mechanism (28) are housed between the side plate (4b) and a side cover (5b). The clutch mechanism (28) has a clutch member (43), movable between a clutch ON-position and a clutch OFF-position and a connection member (55) that is interlocked with the clutch member (43) and is led through the opening part (56) of the side plate (4b) to between the side plates (4a, 4b). A clutch operating member (60), connected to the connecting member (55), is arranged between the side plates (4a, 4b), and a protecting member (65) is arranged, at a position corresponding to the clutch operating member (60) of the side plate (4b).
