Catheter for transvascular insertion of prosthetic heat valves with self-expanding anchors (10) is used with cartridges (4) containing the prostheses and which have a flexible section (9) to assist passage through the aorta. A flexible wire (2) is passed through the catheter (3) to release the cartridge and allow the anchors to expand in a controlled fashion.
