In some embodiments, it may be desirable to freeze the skin to affect hypopigmentation of the patient's skin. Generally, embodiments may limit the overcooling of the patient's skin during cold treatment. In addition, embodiments may limit adverse side effects such as hyperpigmentation. It has been found that the freezing behavior (number and time of freezing) can be improved by adjusting the thermal parameters of the cooling applicator.
