A handpiece maintenance system and method identifies a dental handpiece and operates in a diagnostic cycle to power the handpiece and determine predictive maintenance condition thereof. The handpiece maintenance system includes a temperature sensor and/or an acceleration sensor to measure the conditions of the handpiece during the diagnostic cycle. The predictive maintenance condition of the handpiece is based on data from the diagnostic cycle and other stored data for the identified handpiece. A system is also configured to determine a predictive maintenance condition of the handpiece based on sensor data read from a handpiece and historical usage data thereof.La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé de maintenance de pièce à main qui identifient une pièce à main dentaire et fonctionne dans un cycle de diagnostic pour alimenter la pièce à main et déterminer une condition de maintenance prédictive de celle-ci. Le système de maintenance de pièce à main comprend un capteur de température et/ou un capteur daccélération pour mesurer les conditions de la pièce à main pendant le cycle de diagnostic. La condition de maintenance prédictive de la pièce à main est basée sur des données provenant du cycle de diagnostic et dautres données stockées pour la pièce à main identifiée. Un système est en outre configuré pour déterminer une condition de maintenance prédictive de la pièce à main sur la base de données de capteur lues depuis une pièce à main et de données historiques dutilisation de celle-ci.
