Devices, systems and methods for accessing the pericardial space through the pericardium are described herein. The access device may include a plurality of elongated members having lumens that can be advanced together into the pericardium through the body. The elongated members may have different lengths and an elongated member may be slidably positioned within the lumen of another elongate member. At least one of these elongated members may comprise a distal tip configured to pierce tissue.
