The present invention relates to a method for the production of a biocompatible matrix the method comprising: a) providing a composition comprising at least one biopolymer b) extruding the composition into a layer through a slit onto a surface, wherein the slit moves over the surface c) optionally freezing the layer d) optionally repeating the process to add one or more further layers e) freezing the composition or compositions after extrusion and f) optionally drying the frozen composition, wherein preferably the surface can be cooled. The invention further relates to a biocompatible matrix obtainable by the method as well as to the use of a matrix obtainable by the method for medical or cosmetic purposes.
