A microcatheter forde-livering embolic agent to a vascular siteis provided. The microcatheter has abiocompatible or biocompatible andbiodegradable tip which can bedetach-ably engaged to the microcatheter bodyby a thermoplastic sleeve. Once theem-bolic agent is delivered to the desiredvascular site, the tip of the microcatheteris often entrapped within the mass of theliquid embolic fluid. Using themicro-catheter, the clinician can retract themi-crocatheter at a predetermined retractionforce thereby disengaging the tip fromthe microcatheter body allowing foreas-ier removal of the microcatheter.
