PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide purification of capsular saccharide of Staphylococcus aureus type 5 and type 8.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for releasing capsular polysaccharide from a cell of S. aureus type 5 or type 8 comprising a step of treating the cell with an acid. The invention also provides a process for purifying capsular polysaccharide from a cell of S. aureus type 5 or 8 including this method.
