A spinal fixation device (10) that includes a first engagement member (40). The first engagement member (40) includes a first body (43) and at least one extension (41). The first body (43) includes a first aperture (46) for receipt of a fastener. The at least one extension (41) extends outwardly from the first body (43). Also included in the device (10), a second engagement member (50) including a second body (52) and a threaded extension (51) that extends from the second body (52). The second body (52) includes a second aperture (53) for receipt of a fastener. Further, an expansion ring (60) including a first end and a second end is included. The first end includes a threaded surface in threaded communication with the threaded extension (51). The second end is in rotatable communication with the at least one extension (41) of the first engagement member (40). Where a torque is applied to the expansion ring (60), the second engagement member (50) moves with respect to the first engagement member (40).
