PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occurrence of a crack due to the contraction of a sealing material in a process for sealing a gas cell.SOLUTION: A method for sealing a gas cell includes: an arrangement process for arranging a plug base material in a position for closing a part of an exhaust hole arranged on the gas cell or a position for covering the exhaust hole and arranging a seal material having a shape to keep a part of a space between the exhaust hole and the plug base material in an unfused state, whose amount corresponds to the amount for closing the space between the exhaust hole and the plug base material in a fused state between the exhaust hole and the plug material an exhaust process for exhausting the inside of the gas cell from the space between the exhaust hole and the plug base material a heating/pressurizing process for heating the sealing material for fusing and applying strength in a direction in which the plug base material is pressed against the exhaust hole and a cooling process for cooling the sealing material to seal the exhaust hole by curing of the sealing material by cooling.COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT【課題】ガスセルを封止する工程において封止材の収縮によるクラックの発生を軽減する。【解決手段】ガスセルの封止方法は、ガスセルに設けられた排気孔の一部を塞ぐ位置又は該排気孔を覆う位置に栓基材を配置するとともに、該排気孔と該栓基材との間に、溶融した状態で該排気孔と前記栓基材との空隙を塞ぐ量の封止材であって、溶融していない状態で該排気孔と該栓基材との空隙の一部を保つ形状の封止材を配置する配置工程と、前記排気孔と前記栓基材との空隙から前記ガスセル内を排気する排気工程と、前記封止材を加熱して溶融させるとともに、前記栓基材が前記排気孔に押し付けられる方向に力を加える加熱・加圧工程と、前記封止材を冷却し、該封止材が冷却により硬化することによって前記排気孔を封止する冷却工程とを備える。【選択図】図1
