PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener composition which has a high thickening property and a high salt tolerance, has a moist texture, and is excellent in usability, and to provide a preparation method thereof.SOLUTION: The thickener composition comprises (A) a vinyl polymer and (B) a water-soluble silane derivative expressed by formula (1): Si-(OR1)4 (wherein R1 is a polyhydric alcohol residue). The components (A) and (B) form a hybrid body in an aqueous system.
