R1 is H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or R5—CO—. R5 is H, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl or heteroarylalkyl. R2 is —NR3R4, —OR3, or —SR3. R3 and R4 are each H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl. R1 and R2 are not amino acids. Cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions may include the peptide.
