This specification includes formulations of compounds of imatinib or phenylaminopyrimidine derivatives for aerosol administration, and diseases associated with the lung, heart, kidney, liver, eyes, central nervous system, and surgical sites. Disclosed is the use of said formulation for inhalation aerosol administration of imatinib or phenylaminopyrimidine derivative compounds for the prevention or treatment of various fibrosis, carcinogenic, vascular and viral infections. In some embodiments, the formulations and delivery options described herein allow for effective local delivery of imatinib, or phenylaminopyrimidine derivative compounds, or salts thereof.
