To provide a sufficiently hermetic endoscope excellent in durability, which can yet inhibit the amount of light from decreasing.SOLUTION: The endoscope includes: a light guide that allows incident light to exit an end portion thereof； a distal end member disposed at the end portion of the light guide and having a function to propagate the light from the light guide by total reflection, the distal end member propagating the light from the light guide and allowing the light to exit a distal end face thereof； and an imaging unit using the light from the distal end member to image an object to be observed.
