PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sickle effectively preventing an operator from being wounded even when the sickle goes out of the hand of the operator during use.SOLUTION: The sickle 1 has a handle part 2 to be held by the hand, and a blade part 3 fixed to the handle part 2. A stretchable cover 4 stretchable between an extended position for covering the blade tip 3a of the blade 3, and a contracted position for exposing the blade tip 3a is attached to the blade part 3. The cover 4 has an urging means 5 for urging the cover 4 in the extending direction.
