PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel Alzheimer's disease therapeutic agent.SOLUTION: Provided is a composition containing a combination of PKC activator and PKC inhibitor, as well as a method for adjusting α-secretase activity, for improving or increasing cognitive ability, and/or for alleviating nerve degeneration, in an individual having a cognitive ability-decreased disease, especially Alzheimer's disease. A method for improving or increasing cognitive ability is also provided. A method for increasing the production of non-amyloid productive soluble APP (sAPP), including activation of protein kinase C (PKC) in the brain and inhibition of PKC in peripheral tissue is provided.
