A system for mapping a parasympathetic or sympathetic nerve innervating the renal artery wall, said system comprising: (i) a catheter configured to supply electric current to one or more places on the inner wall of the renal artery sufficient to stimulate a nerve innervating the renal artery artery, (ii) one or more measuring devices for measuring one or more physiological parameters associated with the specified innervation of the renal artery, and the specified physiological the parameters are selected from the group consisting of: systological blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, average blood pressure and heart rate, (iii) a computing device configured to communicate with the specified one or more measuring devices to calculate any increase or decrease in the values of the specified physiological parameters relative to the baseline, (iv) a display device for displaying a specified location or for identifying a parasympathetic or sympathetic nerve and innervating the inner wall of the renal arterii.2. The system of claim 1, wherein the catheter is also configured to supply ablation energy selected from the group consisting of: radio frequency energy, mechanical energy, ultrasonic energy, radiation energy, optical energy and radiation energy.
