Disclosed herein are novel obovatol derivatives represented by Chemical Formula 1, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Having the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis in cancer cells, the derivatives or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are useful in the prevention and treatment of cancer and in the suppression of cancer metastasis.
