PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical material without the risk of elution of nickel while maintaining physical properties balanced as a whole, especially the medical material which is provided with excellent physical and chemical characteristics of a nickel titanium alloy, has a low nickel content on a material surface and is excellent in safety with little risk of the elution of nickel when being brought into contact with a living body or body liquid.
SOLUTION: In the medical material composed of an alloy containing nickel to be used by being in contact with a living body or body liquid, the nickel content on the material surface is lower than the nickel content inside the material, a transition layer wherein the nickel content is gradually reduced continuously from the inside of the material to the material surface is provided, and a practically uniform prescribed alloy composition is provided inside the material. The manufacturing method of the medical material composed of the alloy containing nickel to be used by being in contact with a living body or body fluid comprises: a shaping and working process of the alloy and an electrolytic polishing process of forming the transition layer wherein the nickel content is gradually reduced continuously.
