An injection apparatus (1, 101) for automatically expelling a dose of injection liquid from a container (5, 105) has a first component and a second component which move relative to each other when injection liquid is expelled. The injection apparatus (1, 101) has an injection spring (9, 109), the energy of which is at least partially released when injection liquid is expelled from the container (5, 105) and causes the dose to be expelled from the container (5, 150). The injection apparatus (1, 101) has a setting device (41, 141) for setting the injection speed with which the injection liquid is expelled from the container (5, 105). The setting device (41, 141) influences the energy which is necessary for moving the second component relative to the first component. A simple design of the injection apparatus (1, 101) can be achieved if the first component and the second component move relative to each other in the direction of the central longitudinal axis (50, 150) when injection liquid is expelled and if the setting device has an effect on the rotational position of the first component relative to the second component when the injection speed is set.
