An IC module having leadframe microneedles for a medical device and a method for forming the same are described. The method includes forming a lead frame blank including microneedles integrally formed therein. The microneedle can be bent beyond the initial lower surface of the lead frame blank. The initial lower surface can be coupled to the protective layer such that the bent microneedles are embedded within the protective layer, and the protective layer can be removably attached to the initial lower surface and the bent microneedles. IC components can be affixed to the top surface of the lead frame blank. The top surface of the core of the IC component and leadframe blank can be encapsulated using a molding compound that forms the packaging of the IC module.
