PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide aquaporin production enhancing agents which are highly safe, cause no side effects even when ingested continuously, and are used for prophylaxis or treatment of dry mouth, dry eye, bleeding due to dry nasal cavity, itching due to dry skin, cough and phlegm due to dry respiratory tract, pulmonary edema, brain edema, cataract, saliva secretion disorder, metabolic syndrome, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, xeroderma and ichthyosis； and also to provide external preparations for skin, food and drink, medicine, and feedstuff containing them.SOLUTION: Provided are aquaporin production enhancing agents comprising cryptoxanthin and/or its derivatives, wherein preferably the cryptoxanthin and/or its derivatives are derived from citrus plants.【課題】安全性が高く、継続して摂取しても副作用の無くアクアポリンの産生を促進する物質で、ドライマウス、ドライアイ、鼻腔乾燥に伴う出血、皮膚乾燥による掻痒感、気道乾燥による咳及び痰、肺水腫、脳浮腫、白内障、唾液分泌不全、メタボリックシンドローム、アトピー性皮膚炎、乾癬、乾皮症、魚鱗癬の予防若しくは治療に用いられるアクアポリン産生促進剤を提供すると共に、それらを含有する皮膚外用剤、飲食品、医療品、飼料を提供する。【解決手段】クリプトキサンチン及び／又はその誘導体を含むことを特徴とするアクアポリン産生促進剤であり、好ましくはクリプトキサンチン及び／又はその誘導体がカンキツ類由来のものある。【選択図】図１
