The present invention is directed to a filamentous bacteriophage for use in treating a neurodegenerative tauopathy or susceptibility to a neurodegenerative tauopathy and a method of using the bacteriophage for reducing the formation of fibrils of tau protein or for disaggregating pre-formed fibrils of tau protein, such as in a patient suffering from neurodegenerative tauopathy. The filamentous bacteriophage used in the present invention does not display (i) a mammalian cell internalization signal (ii) a &bgr；-amyloid antigen or an antibody to &bgr；-amyloid, or (iii) a tau protein antigen or an antibody to tau protein.본 발명은 신경변성 타우오패씨로부터 고통받는 환자들에게서와 같이 신경변성 타우오패씨 또는 신경변성 타우오패씨에 대한 민감성을 치료하는데 사용되는 사상 박테리오파지 및 타우 단백질의 형성을 감소키시거나 타우 단백질의 미리-형성된 원섬유를 분해하기 위한 박테리오파지를 사용하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에서 사용되는 사상 박테리오파지는 (i) 포유류 세포 내재화 신호(internalization signal), (ii) β-아밀로이드 항원 또는 β-아밀로이드에 대한 항체, 또는 (iii) 타우 단백질 항원 또는 타우 단백질에 대한 항체를 나타내지 않는다.
