"dust inhaler". a powder inhaler comprising a compartment (7) for storing a powdered medicine, a meter (15) having a dosage recess (18) so as to be filled with a dose of the powdered medicine, and a mouthpiece (3) communicating with the inhaler channel 27 of the powder inhaler. furthermore, the powder inhaler comprises a protective member (19) which is movable in the meter (15) between a closed position in which it at least covers the metering recess (18) of the meter (15) when the meter (15) is in the inhalation position, and an open position in which exposes the dosage recess (18), thereby enabling inhalation of the dose of powdered medicament contained in the dosage recess (18). the protective member (19) is preferably coupled to an inhalation actuated mechanism (21-23) such that the inhalation actuated mechanism (21-23) moves the protective member (19) from its closed position to the open position only. if an inhalation suction force is made by a user that exceeds a predetermined value. This prevents the dosage contained in the dosage recess (18) from falling out of the dosage recess, unless there is no user initiated inhalation process. consequently, the dust inhaler can also be reliably operated upside down.
