The application relates to an end effector (100) assembly to form part of a forceps, the end effector assembly comprising a pair of jaws (120, 130), at least one of the jaws moveable relative to the other jaw about a pivot between an open position and a closed position for grasping tissue, at least one of the jaws including a control trough defined therein that extends therealong, the pivot having a first pivot boss (114) and a second pivot boss defining a hole therebetween and a cutting assembly (140) including a blade and a blade control portion, the cutting assembly defining a longitudinal axis through the blade and the blade control portion, the blade control portion being configured for slidable translation through the hole defined between the first pivot boss and the second pivot boss to allow selective advancement of the blade through the control trough, the blade disposed distally relative to the pivot and extending farther from the longitudinal axis of the cutting assembly than an outer surface of the blade control portion, the forceps including at least one cam assembly operably coupled to the at least one moveable jaw and actuatable to move the at least one jaw between the open and the closed position for grasping tissue.
