PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability of an operator and a user by downsizing an apparatus configuration in photoacoustic tomography.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition apparatus includes: a photoacoustic probe that includes a light emission part for guiding light from a light source, to a subject, and a probe for receiving photoacoustic waves generated from a subject, transmitting ultrasonic waves to the subject and receiving reflection waves； a processing part for generating image information of the interior of the subject on the basis of the photoacoustic waves received by the probe； and a control part for controlling irradiation of the light from the light emission part. Assuming that a state where the light from the light emission part is applied to the subject and the photoacoustic probe comes into contact with the subject so as to enable the probe to acoustically match the subject, is a first contact state, the control part determines, by using the reflection waves, whether or not the probe is in the first contact state and, when determining that it is the first contact state, causes the light emission part to apply the light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1【課題】光音響トモグラフィにおいて、装置構成を小型化し、術者や使用者の操作性を向上させる。【解決手段】光源からの光を被検体に導く光出射部および光出射部により光を照射された被検体から発生する光音響波を受信するとともに被検体に超音波を送信し反射波を受信する探触子を含む光音響プローブと、探触子が受信した光音響波に基づいて被検体内部の画像情報を生成する処理部と、光出射部からの光の照射を制御する制御部を有し、光出射部からの光が被検体に照射されかつ探触子が被検体と音響整合するように光音響プローブが被検体と接触している状態を第一の接触状態としたときに、制御部は光音響プローブが第一の接触状態であるかどうかを反射波を用いて判定し、第一の接触状態であると判定した場合に光出射部からの光の照射を可能にする被検体情報取得装置を用いる。【選択図】図１
