The invention relates to a porous composite support for the treatment of bone defects and to a process for preparing the same. According to the invention, the support comprises 35...60% tricalcium beta-phosphate substituted with 2.5...10 mol.% of magnesium, having an average particle size of 1...5 &mu； m, 25...40% acid-soluble collagen of the type I, having an average molecular weight of 280...330 kDa and a collagen content of more than 80%, 12...20% chondroitin sulphate having an average molecular weight of 9...30 kDa and an uronic acid content of at least 25% and 2...4% hydroxy-ethyl-piperazidine-ethane-sulphonic acid, the parts being expressed by weight. The claimed process for preparing the porous composite support consists in mixing 9...18 parts of the composition 1 containing a 4...9% solution of tricalcium phosphate solution substituted with magnesium in 2...4% saline phosphate buffer, at a pH value of 7...7.7, with 74...78 parts of the composition 2 containing a mixture of collagen 4...6% dialyzed in distilled water and a 2...4% water solution of chondroitin sulphate, and with 9...10 parts of the composition 3 containing a hydroxy-ethyl-piperazidine-ethane-sulphonic acid solution in a concentration of 0.3...0.5%, the mixture so obtained by vigorous vortex treatment for 10...50 min, at the ambient temperature, being then lyophilized at a temperature of -30...-40°C and dried under vacuum at 18...25°C.
