PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently extracting betaine and/or glycosyl glycerol from microorganism collected from culture medium with high salt concentration.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for extracting betaine from halophilic microorganism including a washing process of washing halophilic microorganism containing betaine and/or glycosyl glycerol by using an isotonic solution containing salts having poor solubility to alcohol, a collecting microorganism process of the washed halophilic microorganism, a dissolving process for dissolving betaine and/or glycosyl glycerol in the collected halophilic microorganism in the alcohol, a removing process for removing material which is not dissolved to the alcohol and a separation process for collecting betaine and/or glycosyl glycerol dissolved in the alcohol.
