A method of assisting a patient with airway clearance includes providing a positive pressure insufflation gas flow to the patient during an insufflation phase, following completion of the insufflation phase, causing the patient to enter an expiratory hold condition wherein the patient is prevented from exhaling, providing an abdominal thrust to the patient while the patient is in the expiratory hold condition, terminating the expiratory hold condition, and following termination of the expiratory hold condition, providing a negative pressure exsufflation gas flow to the patient during an exsufflation phase.La présente invention concerne un procédé d'assistance d'un patient avec le dégagement des voies respiratoires qui comprend les étapes consistant à fournir un flux de gaz d'insufflation à pression positive au patient pendant une phase d'insufflation, après la fin de la phase d'insufflation, amener le patient à entrer dans un état de maintien expiratoire dans lequel le patient est empêché d'expirer, appliquer une poussée abdominale au patient pendant que le patient est dans l'état de maintien expiratoire, terminer l'état de maintien expiratoire, et après la terminaison de l'état de maintien expiratoire, fournir un flux de gaz d'exsufflation à pression négative au patient pendant une phase d'exsufflation.
