The present invention relates to methods for obtaining small RNA-enriched aqueous extracts of up to 150 nucleotides in length from plant material. The present invention comprises a) contacting the plant material with water； b) adding tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) to the mixture obtained in a) at a pH between 10.5 and 11； c B.) Then adjusting the pH of the mixture obtained in b) to a value between 6 and 8； d) recovering the mixture obtained in c) to remove plant material and recovering the aqueous crude extract E) to be purified, and e) characterized in that it comprises steps according to checking and, if necessary, re-adjusting the pH to a value between 6-8. The invention also relates to aqueous extracts of plant material enriched for small RNAs of maximum length 150 nucleotides obtainable by such methods, as well as compositions comprising such extracts, and skin aging.
