PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost transplanter and a seedling planting method to lessen the load on a worker and ensure good planted state at the same time.SOLUTION: The planting of a seedling 3 and the soil-covering and compacting at the surrounding of a seedling 3 planted immediately before the planting of the present seedling are carried out at the same time by successively stopping the transplanter 1 according to the positioning of a soil-covering compacting apparatus 7 to a last planted seedling 3 on the field 2 and operating an operation part 5 at each stopped position to lift and lower a planting apparatus 8 and the soil-covering compacting apparatus 7. The worker is not forced to take a stooping posture to lessen the load on the worker. A good planted state is ensured by the sufficient soil-covering and compacting work.
