This invention relates to field of herbal medicine from a novel herb Curcuma neilgherrrensis Wight which has several medicinal properties like antioxidant anticancer and heptoprotectant activity. The invention relates to identification and purification of phytochemical compostions. The hepatoprotective and antioxidant nature of the Curcuma neilgherrrensis extracts were studied in plasma liver and kidney were investigated. The extracts were found to possess cancer curative hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities that can be comparable with the standard drug silymarin. The maximum effect was shown by the methanolic leaf and rhizome of the plant Curuma neilgherrensis Wight
