BIPOLAR FORCEPS WITH MULTIPLE ELECTRODE ARRAY END EFFECTOR ASSEMBLY Abstract A bipolar electrosurgical forceps (10) includes first and second opposing jaw s members (280, 282) having respective inwardly facing surfaces associated therewith. The first and second jaw members (280, 282) are adapted for relative movement between an open position to receive tissue (600) and a closed position engaging tissue (600) between the inwardly facing surfaces. The first and second jaw members (280, 282) each include a plurality of electrodes (412, 422) on the inwardly facing surfaces. The plurality of to electrodes (412, 422) of the first jaw member (280) are disposed in substantially vertical registration with the plurality of electrodes (412, 422) of the second jaw member (282). Each of the plurality of electrodes (412, 422) is configured to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy. Electrodes (412, 422) on at least one jaw member (280, 282) are grouped in pairs and each respective pair aligns with at least one electrode on the opposite 15 jaw members. A multiplexer controls current density or activation sequence of the electrosurgical energy to each electrode (412, 422). Cj.
