A urinary catheter is configured for avoiding heat buildup in, or even cooling, surrounding tissues when the prostate is subjected to treatment radiation such as ultrasound. The catheter includes a region transparent to ultrasound, and through which a cooling fluid (e.g., chilled water) may, in some embodiments, be recirculated during treatment.
