PURPOSE: A composition containing 3-pentanol and a method for preventing plant diseases are provided to improve Capsicum annuum productivity without toxicity to human body. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing plant diseases contains 3-pentanol which is derived from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens IN937a. The plant diseases are bacterial or viral diseases. The bacterial diseases and viral disease are bacterial spot and cucumber mosaic, respectively. A method for preventing plant diseases comprises a step of treating 3-pentanol to a plant body. An agent for preventing plant diseases contains the composition containing 3-pentanol.
