Biometric data is received 405 from a wearable device e.g. smart watch. The biometric data concerns a vehicle operator or driver measured by at least one sensor in the wearable device. A load score is determined 415. The load score is a measurement of operator capacity to operate the vehicle based at least in part on the biometric data from the wearable device. Incapacity may for example relate to tiredness, fatigue, stress or intoxication. The load score may be a weighted score, which assigns different importance levels to the detected biometric data. The biometric data may include the driver heart rate, breathing pattern and pupil size and stability. At least one vehicle component e.g. steering or braking, is actuated based at least in part on the load score 430. Historical load scores may also be taken into account.
