PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nucleic acid-base compound.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a compound is capable of treating hepatitis infections, particularly hepatitis B virus infection. The present inventors have now found a compound and composition that are particularly useful for the treatment of viral infections. According to the present invention, a preferred compound can exert significant activity against hepatitis B virus. The compound according to the present invention is a nucleic acid-based small molecule and comprises at least two nucleoside units, and typically comprises two, three, four, five, or not more than six nucleotides.
