PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for obtaining a body fluid sample parenterally by reducing contamination from microorganisms outside the body fluid source or other pollutants such as microorganisms present on the skin. Syringe-type devices include housings, presample reservoirs and actuators. The housing defines an internal space between a substantially open proximal end and a distal end that includes a port that can be coupled to a cavity defining device. The presample reservoir is fluidly connectable to the port and receives and sequesters the first volume of fluid. The actuator is at least partially located in the interior space and has a proximal end portion including an actuating portion and a distal end portion including a sealing member. The actuating part is the first arrangement in which the user can flow the actuator from the port to the presample reservoir, and the fluid can flow from the port to the sample reservoir at least partially defined by the encapsulant and housing. It is configured to allow selective movement to and from a possible second arrangement.
