An aerosol delivery system including an aerosol generator that aerosolizes a fluid for delivery to a patient. The aerosol generator includes a housing having a fluid chamber in fluid communication with the housing inlet and the housing outlet. Within the housing, the aerosol generator includes a support plate having an opening in fluid communication with the housing outlet. A vibrating member connects with the support plate across the opening. The piezoelectric actuator is also connected to the support plate and expands and contracts during operation to vibrate the vibrable member, which causes the fluid to become an aerosol.
