An end effector for a surgical instrument, comprising a fixed bearing member defining a longitudinal axis and providing mounting surfaces for attachment to a distal end of the surgical instrument at least one jaw member configured to move relative to an opposing jaw member between an open configuration and a closed configuration a force transfer member configured for longitudinal motion with respect to the fixed bearing member, the force transfer member including a pivot channel therein and a reactive member coupled between the fixed bearing member and the at least one jaw member characterized in that the reactive member extends through the pivot channel such that the reactive member flexes at a proximal end of the pivot channel, and wherein relative longitudinal motion between the fixed bearing member and the force transfer member causes the proximal end of the pivot channel to translate along the reactive member such that the at least one jaw member is induced to move relative to the opposing jaw.
