The disclosure relates to a composition comprising: at least one polymeric nanofibre, (preferably the nanofibres are formed from collagen protein) and an effective amount of at least one bioactive compound selected from specific phenolic moieties, enzymes and peptides which are derived from plant sources (preferably the bioactives are selected from the following plants, parts thereof or extracts thereof: grape seed, kiwifruit, blackcurrant, boysenberries, red grape, broccoli, broccoli sprout, olive leaf, seaweed, pine bark, honey, propolis, royal jelly, and combinations thereof) wherein the nanofibres are formed from a base material that is solubilised with the bioactive or bioactives in an aqueous based solvent solution comprising at least one organic acid (preferably selected from: citric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, carbonic acid, and combinations thereof) compound and/or at least one alcohol compound (preferably selected from: ethanol, benzyl alcohol, isopropanol, and combinations thereof), and the base material and bioactives are together spun via electrospinning to form dry fibres and wherein the bioactives are chemically bonded to the nanofibres and the bioactives remain stable during storage of the composition under ambient conditions substantially free of moisture and, on exposure to moisture, the nanofibres dissolve, thereby releasing the bioactives.
