A method of inducing apoptotic death of a neoplasticcell, whereby the neoplastic cell is contacted with anapoptosis-inducing amount of a methylol-containingcompound, such as taurolidine or taurultam, together withFas-ligand. This method is useful for treating both primaryand metastatic cancers. A preferred embodiment includesadministering a methylol transfer agent to the mammal, at atotal daily dose of from about 2 g to about 60 g, theadministration including at least two dosing cycles, eachdosing cycle including an infusion phase of about 1 to 8days, and a non-administration phases of about 1 to 14days. Another embodiment includes treating liver cancer byadministration of a solution of a methylol transfer agentdirectly to the liver via a hepatic vessel.
