PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stairway elevator which can ascend a stairway in a relatively short time.SOLUTION: A stairway elevator 1 controls a move of a chair 32 so that a composed center of gravity G may move to any position from a position including an area along a vertical line Lv of a support shaft C21 up to just before a vertical line Lf of an axle 22a of a first wheel 22. This operation can reduce a move amount of the chair 32 to allow the stair elevator to ascend a steeper stairway.
